Andrew’s 40th at Old Town Italy – Wild Outfits and Even Wilder Dance Moves

A Familiar Face Behind the Lens

Andrew and I go way back. He used to work as a wedding videographer before stepping away from the industry about ten years ago. Since then, we've kept in touch, and I’ve had the chance to photograph a few big moments, including his wife Chane’s 40th, and now his.

Activewear, Confidence and One Brave Mankini!

The theme? Activewear: Dare to Bare.
The execution? Pure Andrew! Absolutely pure Andrew!

Having recently smashed some fitness goals through CrossFit, Andrew arrived in a black shirt, blue poly-shorts, verrrrry bright yellow legwarmers and the most conspicuous red and white sneakers. Not far into the proceedings, he took the black top off to reveal a leopard-print mankini. Everyone burst out laughing! The outfit was complete.

The Perfect Constantia Venue

Andrew had booked out Old Town Italy in High Constantia a spot that’s definitely worth a look if you’re planning an event in the area. It’s stylish, has a great layout, and the downstairs bar worked really nicely as a dancefloor too!

From a photography point of view, I loved the mood and, I was also able to stand on the bar to get an amazing full-group picture of everyone!

The guest list was a mix of family, long-time friends, and business colleagues. Everyone showed up fully committed to the theme, including me, with a "wife-beater" t-shirt and gym shorts!

The energy was fantastic. People had so much fun, and isn't that what any birthday party should be? A celebration with everyone together! The result is a gallery full of personality. It’s what I love about shooting events like this, people letting their guard down and living in the moment.

Photographing Life in Full Swing

Whether it's a 40th like Andrew’s or something smaller and more low-key, I’ve covered birthdays ranging from 4ths to 80ths. My approach is relaxed, candid, and focused on energy, not just posed pictures.

If you're planning a celebration and want it captured in a way that feels real, reach out. I shoot a lot of private events across Cape Town and love being part of nights like this.
