Cape Town Winter Proposal
Zee contacted me weeks earlier to plan his Cape Town winter proposal to Ingrid at Tintswalo Atlantic. He couldn’t wait and had chosen a winter sunset for the big moment. The sky was overcast, which some might call gloomy, but for photography it was ideal. The soft light and dramatic sky made for incredible images.
The team at Tintswalo had prepared a deck with rose petals and candles, creating a beautiful, romantic setting. Ingrid believed it was just a quiet getaway. Then Zee got down on one knee. She was completely stunned.
I had been hiding out of sight, doing everything I could to stay unnoticed. A few times I thought she’d spotted me, but later she said she hadn’t seen a thing. Zee had asked me to photograph the moment discreetly, and when the time came, Ingrid was genuinely surprised. She said yes, and her smile, her shock, her joy... it was all there.
Once the moment was out in the open, I stepped forward and captured more candid moments. The ring was stunning. The setting, the emotion, the couple – everything aligned beautifully. I did a short couple’s shoot right after and told them, “Just be in love, don’t worry about me.” They were. It was the kind of Cape Town winter proposal that reminds me why I do what I do. The photos speak for themselves.
