I find many couples seem to be reluctant to be in front of a camera. In fact, more often than not, it causes some angst. An engagement shoot is a fantastic way to get a good feel for who you will work with on your wedding day. It will relieve the pressure on the day tremendously.

Most of my couples arrive at an engagement shoot somewhat nervously. I hear it repeatedly. "We're not good on camera" or "We're not models" Or "We're not photogenic" I always answer the same way:

We might not all be models, but we are ALL photogenic.

It's what our partners see in us that makes them love us. As a photographer, being great with a camera isn't enough. It's  how we interact when working together. I'll joke with you and I always talk you through what I'm doing. Worried about not knowing what to do, don't, I'll guide you. 

It's for this reason, I can't recommend a pre-wedding couple shoot enough. It's a great way to get to know your photographer and prepare you for the wedding day shoot. You'll be so happy you did. If there really is an issue, you can change photographers. I've got hired by couples who've done just that.

How to hire the right photographer from the start.

Most of it is obvious, reliability, style, pricing etc... But prioritise your connection with your wedding photographer. You don't want a wedding photographer spoiling your day because they are difficult to connect with.

My excitement and passion for what I do, and our connection, made the images flow. I captured them as the people they are and even threw a little pizazz in there with some dramatic pictures.
