I like to donate my time to worthy causes

Pro-bono photos with T.E.A.R.S. animal rescue.

I like to donate my time to worthy causes. I have photography skills that can help others to help themselves. Besides, I love what I do and through helping others, I get to see some amazing places, meet amazing people and work with cool 'subjects'.

The T.E.A.R.S 2021 calendar

Each year the organization produces a calendar. It's used to promote TEARS and help raise funds for their incredible cause. TEARS rescues animals from desperate situations and euthanization is an absolute last resort.

This year I'm the official photographer for the calendar. The theme is "at home", we've been taking photos of rescue animals all over the Southern Suburbs here in the Western Cape.

Some background info.

I thought I'd share this behind the scenes of these little guys. Have a look at the one of my favourites from the shoot vs what the 'set' looked like.

We chose the spot specifically for the background wall. It was also hella windy that day, so it helped get out of that for a bit.

Flash is brilliant for fast moving subjects, puppies don't sit still for photos.

For this shoot I used flash, overriding the ambient (natural light). What I love about flash photography is how it brings out vibrant colours and clarity. I'm not one of those photographers who likes everything to look desaturated. Setting up a few flashes gave me consistent lighting conditions and minimal blur. A big plus with bouncy pups!

Quantity and quality.

In a shoot like this one has to shoot quantity, the pups don't keep still. By shooting a lot of pictures, you're more likely to get that shot you're after. Having good lighting means that you don't loose shots that could have been good.

The images below are behind-the-scenes of the lighting. I use GODOX flashes and shoot with a Canon 5D MkIV.
